Yesterday's short hunt

Snuck out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon to one of my old sites from last season. Hunted an area that had been hit real hard, but there were a surprisingly high number of signals. I think I can attribute that to the fact that the huge cotton stubs from last year were preventing full coverage, and now its an almost totally cleared area after the beans were cut. Anyway, I was making a few routine colonial finds when I thought I had me a nice piece of spanish silver, but it turned out to be an 1856 dime. However, I was not disappointed as it had been a while since digging a seated coin. Another interesting find was part of an early spoon bowl with some kind of strange marking. Does anyone know what this is?

Wow, Bill, you always are digging 1600s relics. :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright: I am :headbang: to that 17th century spur buckle piece. The spoon bowl is also a top-notch Colonial excavation. :icon_thumleft:

Those are nice finds Bill.

So hard to clean out a good site. I have hit certain foundations over 20 times. I let them sit go back and boom a few more keepers.

It's prime digging season for you now and it's freezing up here. Keep posting all those sweet Virginia colonial relics and coins, it will help keep me warm through the next few months :icon_sunny:

I have never seen anything like that spoon bowl, but it is definitely a cool relic!
