Found two feet down at a 1700's homestead. After knocking a few inches of rust off it say's "OLIVER" with serial # 83 . D. DS . 11 " S

I'm thinking it was made in 1883? James Oliver invented the "steel" plow after emigrating to the US from Scotland in the early 1800's. E mailed the museum in his name but haven't heard anything back yet and I need the info for a presentation I'm making tomorrow night. Any help is greatly appreciated....

Well I guess I'll become the local expert on plow stuff (not)

The Farmers Museum in Cooperstown is helping date and name this part. So far they are guessing it was made in 1883...pretty cool, now what in the world is it called? C'mon TNet you can do it :)

No idea but that really held up well after being in the ground for so long.

I guess it has held up well. I'm just glad I went at the rust with caution and didn't ruin the Trademark or serial number. It took me a couple of days of ball peen hammering and wire brushing to get it to that point though.
