I found today what I think is a dog collar? From what I know the ranch was occupied in the 1900’s. There is so much farm equipment metal. But this is weird!

In my part of the woods they are called a calf blab. Found some pretty gnarly looking ones in my barn.

Fascinating I have never seen one. At first glance it reminds me of an old sheepdog collar we had around the house as kids. It was heavily spiked to prevent wolves from getting at the dog’s throat. Much shorter spikes though. Great find.

yes, so it would cause enough pain to the mother that she would keep moving away and not allow it nurse
