Hi Everyone,
Been a while since I got any coins,
Got 3 Silvers and 2 Coppers today :sunny:
I finally got my Pine Tree Shilling :D Looks to be a Noe-1 Large Planchet
correct size and weight, 28mm X 4.4 Grams.
A solid coin with some encrustation.
note scratch on obverse and clean X on reverse, good metal right there.
this example is a late stage as shown by severe die cracking around date,
and is close to the specified original weight and diameter, no clipping! :o
The site below is the most comprehensive I've found about Mass Silver,
follow to section contents for more info on the series.
Pine Tree Coinage
Also got my first Barber quarter and an SLQ,
2 LCs, one toast and a '47 with a really nice strike, even full of dirt, she's looking good...
(pardon the soap bubbles)
Thanks for looking and HH All !! Herbie.

Re: Been a While, Got some coins! Pine Tree

I didn't predict this find. Heck why try to predict that when I have a hard time guessing at Lotto numbers? But you have been pulling great things from the waters so why not a Pine Tree Shilling? I really hope the conservationists at NCS can do the coin justice. And it certainly belongs in a place of honor in your collection. Congrats on the banner and your perseverance. Oh, and try for the the full set of that year...really impress us! ;D

HUGE CONGRATS ! Herbie :headbang: finding an elusive Mass pine tree shilling or even a Mass copper has been mentioned by quite a few of us . Where's the enthusiasm ?? :icon_scratch: C'mon now , tell us the truth .. when you saw it was a tree, where you jumping around like crazy :blob7: doing hand stands , flipping out , or just yawning and scratching your butt :D sounds dumb but curious minds need to know what that experience was like . ;D

WTG Herbie, I sure hope the conservation by NCS comes out better than that sad looking SLQ :D Hopefully the encrustation helped preserve the coin better than it had not formed. The Large Cent is very decent shape. Will await the post NCS photos! Congrats again.

I'm surprised there's that much build up on it, but if you found a real one you gladly take it any way you can.

You could also consider some of the professionals who deal with shipwreck coins.

Congrats on your BANNER pine tree coin. It couldn't have happened to a better guy. :occasion14:
Your dedication to the hobby has paid off big time.
Way to go on the Barber quarter too. I still haven't been able to cross that one off of my list.
