Hello All,

My daughter and I went out for a short hunt yesterday to the house where the Capped Bust came from. It was slow going in beginning, dug a lot of deep iron nails. Then got a decent signal and out came the 1892 O Barber Dime. We could only stay for 15 minutes and on our last hole popped out the 1830 Large Cent. I could tell it wasn't in great shape when dug it was awful smooth. It isn't to happy after cleaning it, but can read the date and that is cool. I hope this post works my computer died and I am trying to post from cell phone.

The Barber looks great, & even though the LC isn't in the best shape, there is enough detail to make it a nice coin. I'd take it.

Great Finds......The 1892-O Barber Dime is a first year issue of that series......and your coin has a full liberty, looks to be better than an XF-40 worth over $75 retail, but looks to be closer to AU....AND there was an original mintage of only 3,841,700, with an estimate by PCGS of only 5,000 surviving pieces in all grades that still exist. So NICE keeper!!

Happy Hunting to ALL

Bill

The dings and dents would take away monetary value and grading but if it was my find I would never think of selling it....to me it would be priceless and I would not worry about grade or value....the memory for you and your daughter to find such a beautiful and old piece of history together cannot have a value put on it.My daughter keeps her favorite finds in a "treasure box" with some other small keepsakes such as movie tickets that we shared.....hopefully she will pass them on someday to her children and have wonderful heartfelt stories to tell

Great digs! Nothing wrong with an old copper that has a little "personality" to it !

Thanks All for the good response. The fact that I could I'd the Large Cent and date it was fine with me. I have dug a couple of smooth large coppers this year which can be frustrating. Of course any Silver is great to find.

Great finds! My second ever Barber dime was an 1892 O that is my avatar. That is a pretty coin! I am still waiting on my first large cent with a readable date.
