Acetone will do the trick. And the pure stuff, not fingernail remover.

Ok, I'm guessing in it's current condition I'll be lucky to get $30. How will cleaning it with acetone affect the value?

Honestly I have others, so I just want to sell this to get as much cash as possible for it, be it cleaned or not cleaned.

Acetone will just loosen the gunk. It won't hurt the coin.

You could try soap and water first. I've heard of the acetone treatment too.

For major gunk let it set for a day. It won't hurt the coin.

Because polish remover has other chemicals in it that can harm or stain the coin.

Hey CC, you got that 99WAM you've been wanting, now it's time to find another. You are very lucky, keep doing what your doing, I enjoy reading your posts. There aren't many cent searchers on this forum, it's good to read about more than half dollars.

So I got pure acetone and dipped it in it and swirled it around for 5 minutes and this is what I got out. I'm assuming what's left is just stained in the coin. I would say it was kind of successful. Should I note on the eBay listing I dipped it in acetone?

Can I do this with another 1999 wide am I have that has like a thin layer of dirt around it or would it damage it?

Of course it won't damage it. It didn't damage the first one. It just helps loosen and remove the organics. Just soak and rinse and let it air dry. The acetone will evaporate. No need to mention it when selling either.

Sweet! I wish would have known about this stuff earlier! I always thought it damaged coins. I'll put another pic of the other 1999 WAM I'm gonna do shortly.
