1st Post, New Member, Found a Nice 1!

Hi everyone. Just came across this forum while trying to identify an artifact my son and I found yesterday. Thought I could use some help. I've only found a handful in my life, but dad and grandpa accumulated a decent stash of nice points and stone tools from farming over the years. I think the material is either Burlington or Oneota chert and the location is NC IL. It's 2.25" tall and 1.75" wide. If anyone has a type and era for this point I'd love to hear. Thanks for looking!

Wow that’s a beauty.

I’d suggest heading to your largest nearby city that has a good NA museum so your son could connect the dots as to the culture and how they lived.

That will make hunting artifacts that much more interesting!!!

I’ve visited a few in my childhood that had great life size wax figures of NA culture performing daily tasks. Complete with tools and clothing. It is imprinted in my mind to this day.

If think it was likely in San Francisco.

Of course wait until the teat dries out and everyone goes back to work.

Very nice find. If the base is concave it might be a Neuberger. It's hard to get a good idea of what the base looks like with your thumb on it. Can we get another clear picture without holding it?

Definitely a corner notched piece, it kind of resembles a Kirk (if found in my area).

Thanks to all for the warm welcome and feedback. I'll enclose another pic without fingers blocking it. It does look similar to the Neuberger that ToddsPoint showed above, but it also resembles the others mentioned - Kirk and Synder. Yes I like getting the kids out of the house as much as possible. I have 2 younger than Henry who was pictured in my first post, and I have 1 just a year older, who has actually found a couple points on his own already. I'll show pics of those as well. He's usually with me more often, and he was kinda sad that he wasn't there when we found the nice one. I'll get a pic or 2 up here of my dad's old stuff as well. They used to find a lot of it while row crop cultivating with the front mount cultivators. He said ya couldn't always stop in time. We also got the kids a starter metal detector for Christmas that we haven't even had time to open yet, but plan to in the next week or so. Much to learn there! So I'll be spending some time over on that section of the forum probably quite a bit. Thanks again.

So here are most of the more noteworthy things I think my dad and granddad (deceased '95) found. They hardly ever purposely hunted for artifacts. Most were found by coincidence in the fields. The farm where the majority of it was found is no longer owned by the family. I don't know what most of these points are called, but I do think there's a pretty nice dovetail and a probable Paleo point. The dovetail is made of a pretty material that has some green in it. Three of these frames were assembled probably 50 years ago. They used to paint the arrowheads with finger nail polish. Let me know if you see anything cool.
