Hi all,
Sunday went out and located a new spot. I was finding big pieces of brick and thought something might be here. I found these 3 ringers and the button all within 30 feet of each other. Can I get some help trying to id the button and the copper plug looking thing? Also found a couple of toasted coppers.

I'm thinking somebody might be able to id these things and I hope they are civil war related.

Thanks for the help!

Don

The button looks like a script "P". The button looks like a police button although I have found the same button at a CW related area. I have talked to others saying they have found the same buttons in CW camps. I'm sure these buttons could have been used to replace missing buttons on uniforms and clothing. The other object you have looks like a grommet. I have found plenty of them but they are sometimes hard to date. I would say if you were finding 3 ringers near the grommet then its probably same time period.

Thanks RiverRat3! Would this be a state related police button? I have Warren K. Tice book of Uniform buttons, would it be in there?

Thanks for the help!

The brass rivet looking thing is a pack stud. They came in two pieces--a nail like piece and a washer. They would poke the nail piece (what you have) through leather, put the washer piece on the other side, and hammer flat to rivet two pieces of leather together. These are not specifically CW, although the CW troops certainly used them.

Best Wishes,

Buckles
