Hi everyone,

Just wanted to resume a two days hunt under the cold autumn rain in Montreal.

Decided to continue my river exploring even thou I'm having a bit of a cold (partially caused by my previous hunts) and despite the cold, rainy and windy weather. The water is getting cooler everyday so i'm trying to limit my outings to 2-3 hours max.

Despite that, had my personal record Spanish silver hunt to date. Pulled a beautiful 1759 2 Reales coin and two 1 Real coins (1775,1781) Also a bunch of halfpenny tokens in a pretty washed condition (except the beautiful Wellington 1814 Halfpenny). Got a bunch of interesting relics as well, I will try to post them after the cleaning.

The Reales were in a very bad condition as were covered in a black crust, same as the half Real I pulled a week ago. Was working really hard to clean them. Pretty glad with the condition of the 2 Reales but both of the singe ones did not clean as well. I'm very excited about this spot and feel really happy and privileged to have been the one to uncover those coins after they hid for centuries in the river mud.

I included the pics of the 2 Reales coin before the cleaning so you can have a better idea of the effort (at least 12 hours)it took to get it cleaned. The lemon juice trick doesn't work on that type of crust.

Note: The Hibernia halfpenny in the groupe picture is from my previous hunt on that spot. Just wanted to include it in the pic as it's from the same period as my Spanish silver.

A nice little hunt!

You have been killing it lately Aureus :occasion14: That pistareen came out absolutely incredible. I dug some Spanish last year that has very similar black scale as those two 1 real coins. I did very very light electrolysis for about 30 seconds per coin and the hard black scale melted to sludge. I didn't zap them for so long that they came totally clean, because I still like my coins to be dirty and dug! I tried lemon juice too and it does nothing to that black scale. If you're interested in seeing the results of my scale removal here is the old post http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...f-1816-2-reale-1776-1-reale-pocket-spill.html I updated my original post with a new before\after picture... the scale looks just like yours did.

That 2 reales is a beauty-looks like it was well worth the cleaning effort.
