I finally found something worth posting. I have gone a few hunts in the area with very little luck. This isn’t exactly Spanish silver or a rare copper but it is the kind of relic I really like to see in the hole.

I went back to the old school house/post office/general store that I went to a couple weeks ago. The only thing that I found there was the 1967 Confederation token which I posted previously. I have been heeding a fellow detectorists tutelage and have been going real slow with tiny sweeps in the junk iron areas. I think I am finally starting to get the hang of it.

I found this silver quarter in the middle of a heap of iron as well as the suspender buckle. The crotal bell I found near what was the drive way. This is the first intact tombac crotal bell that I have found. Can anyone approximate an age on the tombac crotal bells? I think I read somewhere that they predate the brass and copper bells. Not sure though.

Good question on the bell...Great find, by the way! ;D

Out of all the bells I've found, I only have one like yours (Tombac)...I was wondering the same thing as far as age.

The turning marks make me think it was manufactured after cast brass...late 17's early 1800's. ::) ???

Either way, it's a great piece of history! :)

Is the loop cast with the bell? Or does it look added after casting?

Loop is cast with the bell...

If it were following the principles of the British construct then:
Lower half sun burst design, upper part plain - Late 17th - Mid 19th century.
Normally Pewter or Bronze but Tombac would fit.

Congrats on teasing the good stuff out of the iron!

Love the bell! Does it still jingle and everything?

Nice hunt!
