Hey folks, I haven't posted any of my finds here in awhile and I hope that everyone enjoys seeing this one. I love to hunt Native Artifacts and older Relics out in the bush and came across this coin beside a portage that has been used for years and years. I don't get too many signals while bush whacking so I dig everything that goes beep. This coin was a few inches under some mud and rocks on the edge of the river. I can't believe that I actually found this while looking for Artifacts, found a nice little stone knife for my troubles that day as well. This is probably my first and last gold coin that I will ever find but will be returning to pound the heck out of that site again this Fall or early Spring. Maybe the person who lost this years ago had more in his pockets that day? This is by far the oldest coin that I have ever found and was shaking for hours after digging it. Thanks for looking and good luck to all of you in your future hunts. :headbang:

What a beautiful coin and a great find anywhere, but way out in the brush makes it just that much more interesting. Perhaps the person that lost the coin also lost his life at the same time. There are lots of scenarios that come to my mind, where the coin was lost and not recovered. No matter, what ever happened you saved it, and it's an awesome find.

Beautiful coin, and you found it while bushwacking. It just goes to show, you never know where one will pop up next. It looks about the same size coin as the full gold sovereign one of my buddies brought up from the bottom today.
Great job and I think..... Dare I say..... Banner worthy,

If there's one thing I've learned about detecting, it's this: that just about anything can be found just about anywhere.

A BEAUTIFUL coin!

Cheers,

Buck

How come no one is talking banner? I get excited finding a 1946 Washington quarter, I'm claiming banner? What denotes banner find, just when it hits everyone's fancy? Maybe I didn't read the rules on what is considered banner? I have been reading on this site for a few months now and I don't remember any gold coins found?

Yea what did it ring up at.

A gold sovereign rings up in the mid 60s and by the way, I have air tested a tiny gold flake which was less then a gram on my ATP and it rang up in the upper 30s and could detect it at 3 inchs. Not bad for a MDer that was not designed for gold prospecting. My PI machine could pick it up at all.
