I have been on the phone this morning with a high ranking friend in Converse County. He is going to see if he can secure landowner permission for some treasure hunting this summer. The before mentioned Hog Ranch and some other places on Deer Creek.

Let's hope.

Glad to hear it!! Always exciting.

I just ordered my new unit today. CTX3030. All I can say is, it better be worth the money LOL.

Sounds like once the show melts, we will all have to get together and plan an outing.

I got a Fisher F2. I took it out of the box and messed around a bit. I like the quick start demonstration in the hand book. It helped my understanding of discrimination settings. It came with 8" and a 4" coils and a pin pointer as well. Now we just need the weather to cooperate. WM I agree when the weather clears we need to get together.

Went out in the front yard and found a quarter. Nothing too exciting but enough to make me want to find more. Maybe tomorrow depending on weather.

Since we didn't get the show they were predicting, a lot of ground can be seen. Wind is supposed to kick up a bit though.

well we are in a bit of a thaw here, still below freezing at night but the snow is melting off. Forecast is for 50* this weekend, so perhaps the yard will dry out a bit. I can hope

Were melting quickly in Casper as well. My new machine finally showed up and I have been playing with it in the yard.

Steep learning curve, that's for sure.

Ground is completely frozen starting at 8 inches down though.

so at noon today I look at the weather forecast form 2 different services. Both said that it was going to be sunny for the next few days. Sooo I took the top and doors off the Jeep. At about 4 it started to cloud up a bit, check the weather at 5 and now there is a 40% chance of SNOW tomorrow....WTF???...so the Jeep is under the carport topless...I don't care I'm going for a cruse in the badlands tomorrow snow or no snow!!!!

RANT OVER

So I work with a guy whose dad owns some property in the bighorn, he tells be Friday that from about 1910 to 1920 there was a small goldmine on the property. The miner died about 1920 snowshoeing into town for supplies and no one worked it from then on.
his dad has owned the land for quite a few years, him and my coworker have looked around, found the shaft, but no cashe. There is supposed to be a cashe of Winchesters there too. From what he says, the only metal detector that's been there was his daughter, who at 12, gave up after the first pop can that took 10 min to dig out. The best part is, I get to check it out this summer!!!

AWESOME!! That would be a great day of fun. I would certainly drive up there if we could get access.

But, a cache of old Winchester rifles would be nuts. You wouldn't be able to scrape the smile off my face with a shovel LOL.

So Scott and WM are you guys melting out on the other side of Wyoming? Starting to slowly show signs of spring here in the western side of the state. Still a lot of snow left to melt though.

It is really melting off in the valleys. I was able to get out and find some old pennies in my yard the other day.

But the mountains are a different story. Casper Mtn received 5 feet (not a typo) of snow in 24 hours a few weeks ago. Muddy Mtn got 6 feet.

Gonna be awhile before those areas get clear. More snow on the horizon for Casper, but I can see the first signs of spring starting to come about.

I can't quite get out and hunt in my yard yet. Still around three feet in the valley, and a lot in the mountains. We got a foot of snow the night before last, but the last two days have been nice. Yesterday was around 40 and today pushed 50 so melting here has started, but a while yet before I can get to hunting.

WOOHOO!!! Came home from work today, decided I was going to get started on the yard with the new xterra, I have to learn it sometime.
tried a big patch of yard to get MD ground balanced, just could not find a spot without iron. I finaly just picked a spot put it in all metal and started digging. after about a half pound of nails, barb wire and other assorted iron I had a 3 foot hole about 18" deep, CRAP, a lot of digging...anyway I now have a patch of clean ground

I next started chasing signals, digging a hole and not finding anything :BangHead:
OK Scott slow down....I started really trying to find a steady, repeatable signal, BAM, solid 34, both directions, roundness in the hole! haha

1910 Wheat !!! what did I learn? repeatable signal...that is the key. Over the next hour, 2 more Wheats 1944d and a third that I can't read the date. Also found a interior piece of a pocket watch, appears to be gold plated. the last thing was a solid 24 xterra read 6" ground was hard. dug about 7" with a spade, first handful of dirt across the coil, 24, most of a old toy gun, about 3"long, darn the grip was broken at some point. fill in the hole swing the coil back across the hole...solid 24...back in the hole...about 8" the broken off piece of the gun...WOOHOO...look at the 2 pieces, fresh scrape on the bigger piece...closer look both ends of the break...shiny...damn I broke it.

What did learn? buy a damn pinpointer, and dig more carefully.

tomorrow night the other half of the yard!

Good for you! Glad to here that you were able to do some digging. :icon_thumleft: Sometimes the old ticker really gets a going when you think you have a good one. I'm in the prediciment, I need to get one of those pinpointers. I've been detecting for almost 30 years, so maybe a little upgrade won't hurt, but I'm going to have to save up for one.

AWESOME!!!!

I hit the yard tonight before the snow falls and found 3 pennies from the 80s, all within just a couple if inches of each other. That was when my house was built, so it seems logical. I was surprised with the CTXs ability to discern and show several signals very close together and with other iron in the hole.

I would have struggled to find them if it weren't for the pinpointer. I highly recommend a decent pinpointer.
