Hello all,,,
I made it out yesterday for about an hour and wasn't having much luck.
I saw a big old Katopa tree and decided to hit around it. I found the "Sterling" ring at a depth of about 4" down. One of the main stones is missing. What do ya call these stones? It's a redish color with what looks to be a smaller purple bubble inside that seems to follow you as you move it. It also has a total of 18 white stones surounding the two main stones, probably fake diamonds of some sort... Just a few feet away I got a solid nickel signal on the Cz at a depth of only 3" down. Being so close to the surface I figured it was just a newer nickel, but dug it anyway, hoping it would be a gold ring. To my surprize, out pops my first ever Shielded nickel. Can't make out a date, but it has no rays on the reverse, so it has to be somewhere between 1867-1883.
It definitely made my day... ;D
Wish ya all the best of luck, & Happy hunting~

Hi Leon,
Congrats on the Shieldie! Very nice.
The ring is pretty too.
The stone almost seems to be a glass marble?
That pruple bubble inside that moves,
don't know of any gemstones that have that.
Some crystals have these bubbles,
they are called an Enhydro.

Cool digs!

Smiles!

Great finds....That ring is beautiful even with a missing gem....looks old. Is a Katopa tree the same as one of those long bean trees ?

Awesome Shield nickel Leon! A rare find.Even in its dug condition it looks to be EF.
When you get it cleaned and dated I'd appreciate another look.I love the design of that coin better than the liberty Head. Best of luck to you to. HH!

Congrats Leon,

Those are tough to find.

I have found many of old coins at shallow depths.

It's great to get surprized like that.
