Dano, I am a little confused--you seem to have allegiance to U.K. but your location is Sweden. Great Britain was once the greatest empire on earth, but is now just a second-rate welfare state, with a disarmed citizenry, and a barely-capable military. Sweden is a first-rate welfare state, which has given Nobel Peace Prizes to Yasser Arafat(Palestinian terrorist), Barack Obama(drone guy), and Al Gore(selling out to Al-Jazeera, which is owned by Qatar.) How many nations has Sweden freed from tyranny? How many were freed by the U.K.(without the U.S. stepping in)? The U.S. is exceptional because it believes in freedom and spills its own blood to bring freedom to others. No other country has ever done this. Please be more circumspect in your comments.

Times 2 :occasion14: . GB has been 'excused' from more nations than any other 'WORLD POWER' existing today and , yet , wishes to tell others how to live .

Telling others how to live is definitely a socialist trait.

Treasure Hunter: I don't disagree with anything you posted. I know it was a rhetorical question; no, I do not want my kids to live under a totalitarian government. This is not an attack against you, let me try to explain myself a little better. (Red, feel free not to respond...since you have no interest in debating me.)

Myself, BigScoop, Bill, Rebel, Ammon, Dano and others have never said that we want to totally disarm people. In fact, all of us would take up arms with you if the government tried to do that. None of us want to give up any of the ten amendments. What I am saying, is that perhaps we need to place some limits on the types of guns people own. The constitution states the right to bear arms, but it does not say what type of arms. Lets take things the opposite way for a second. Lets increase arms availability; however, lets not stop at automatic guns. Lets not stop at tanks, or bomber planes, or Napalm, or nuclear weapons. In fact, lets take things one step farther, lets give civilians the right to own chemical weapons. With the proper knowledge, supplies, and laboratory chemical weapons are not difficult to manufacture. Do you want any American citizen to have access to chemical weapons? You could take out a whole stadium in a heartbeat. So we have to have some restrictions on arms, the question becomes, what limits are those? I don't have the answer to this question, I know little about guns. That is why I am asking those of you who know the most.

I don't own a gun. I have samurai swords and knives in hidden places in my house. You may or may not have noticed when we hunted but I have an essential resting tremor. I also have myoclonic jerks in my hands, arms, and legs. Myoclonic jerks are when your body twitches without you wanting it to. If I did have a gun I would most likely miss my target or shot somebody on accident. I do not want people with my conditions to own a gun.

Most Americans I grew up with did not have guns as a part of their culture. there is no hunting in major cities. When bad guys try to kill you it is usually on the streets and suddenly. I know people who were held up by a gun and were carrying a concealed weapon. They gave their wallet and never drew their weapon. They said nothing in their wallet was worth the chance. I have nothing but the utmost respect for veterans. Just as veterans have dedicated their lives to protecting their fellow man I have dedicated my life to preserving and saving lives. It is hard for me to look at guns as anything other then weapons to kill, but yet my views on the necessity of protecting the right to bear arms is very similiar to yours. ...you know what I'm trying to say here.

Crispin

How about we only outlaw the Muslim religion, it is only a small chip away of the 1st amendment, no big deal after all they declare war on all non believers.
How about we allow just 1 soldier to be quartered in our homes on weekends only, it is only a small chip away in the 3rd amendment.
How about we allow business to be searched with out a warrent, after all the 4th amendment doesnt have the word "business" in it.
How about the government can seize property under $10,000 and not give compensation, it is only a tiny chip away of the 5th amendment.
How about we call a speedy trial anything with in 2 years, 2 years isnt that long really, besides 6th amendment doesnt really give a specific time span so no big deal...

Here is my compromise, how about we look at the Bill of Rights as they are written, through the eyes of those who wrote them, at the time they were written to get the meaning for them and the purpose for which they were written into the Bill of Rights..... I want compromise any of the Bill of Rights......

To quote an old saying, "it's not rocket science", this is just a ruse to try to disarm American once again and take away our rights. Anyone who thinks it would stop there is naive.......I am 100% convinced once the 2nd amendment is stripped the rest of them are not worth the paper they are written on period. Absolute power corrupts absolutely! With a disarmed country what stops a president from declaring martial law on a ruse and refusing to step down at the end of his term.....

If I was willing to die 10,000 miles from home in a rice paddy in SE Asia 45 years ago, I am willing to die in my back yard today to defend the Constitution and our Bill of rights, it's that simple for me....

Read the bill of Rights and the Constitution. Now consider that the men who wrote them were all students of the law. Do you really believe they wrote them in such vague form without cause? A nation needed built, a government needed formed and established and administered and adjusted when necessary. Do you really believe, after studying their individual histories prior to the penning of these documents, that they lacked such clarity? Do you really believe, with all of their combined knowledge of nations and the law, that they were so simple minded in their application of the pen? Personally, I give them far more credit then that. Just something for you all to consider.

DieselRam: Now that I know you better, I know you didn't mean anything by it, but to say "stop and think" kind of implies that I was not thinking at all before. My friend, I wish I could stop thinking on command, I would sleep a lot better. :)

I don't want to get too far into the slippery slope argument. The reason I don't like it is that it can be used for any argument in both directions. The slipperly slope implies that we (all of us) are too simple to make some choices without letting it get out of control. It also makes it very hard to have a discussion when somebody says, "slippery slope."

We have talked a little about tyranny and its definition. I think it would be splitting hairs to debate the definition it, so I'll avoid doing it and answer your question directly. No, that is not my idea of tyranny. I don't know if semi-automatic guns should be banned or not. I have never even held a semi-automatic gun. I am a healer. I have sutured, delivered babies, casted bones, pronounced dead...etc...etc. Guns to me represent death. I realize they are a necessary part of society. I know people enjoy hunting, target shooting, and other hobbies with guns. I love to collect things so I totally understand why somebody would want a gun collection. However, in my line of work, after a long hard day filled with tears and pain the last thing I want to see is a gun. So, it is hard for me to understand why people need to have semi-automatic guns. If there are logical explanations then I will change my opinion. If it keeps going back to "2nd amendment" then I don't see it yet. Not saying I am right, just saying that I don't see it.
Crispin, all a semiautomatic weapon does is chamber the next shell automatically. You must pull the trigger for each shot individually. I think a lot of people hear "semiautomatic " and think machine gun. In theory a gun with a two round magazine could still be a semiautomatic if it chambered the second round automatically. But it sure is not a machine gun. A semiautomatic weapon is great for target shooting. Not much harm in that.

Of course you're confused mate, you're American! Let's see if i can make things easier for you:

1/ I was born in the UK. Therefor my allegiance is to them by default.
2/ My girlfriend is Swedish and MY quality of life is better living here...so i do!.
3/ Yup, Britain has really gone downhill lately as you rightly said. We now only have a paltry 57 countries who have our queen as "head of state", including 2 of the biggest - Canada and Australia. Still, you as the "mightiest country ever known" have....Puerto Rico!
Still, Britains past glories are just that...past, and Brit's don't really think about it much anymore unless stating historical facts or educating Americans. The past is the past and irrelevent in todays world, much like your glory days in 1776.

4/ If you're not aware? A "capable" military costs a heck of a lot of money to maintain these days. We realised this a while back and decided to just maintain a "barely capable military" while letting the USA populate their military with drones (and not the flying type), and spend trillions to play "big boy on the block!". Made much more sense and saves us a lot of money and lives.
5/ No idea how many countries Sweden has freed from tyranny. I'm just here for the sex! 8-)

6/ I love that statement.."spills it's own blood to bring freedom to others". Best summed up by a t-shirt i saw once - "Like us and don't argue with us...or we WILL bring freedom to your country!" lol. The only reason you're "exceptional" is for the fact that Joseph Goebbels would have given his right arm to have such a brainwashed, blind and closed minded nation to preach to!

Hope this has helped to make you a little less confused now Ray?
