Anglo-Saxon gold ring

found this last sunday on a club dig,
the ring dates back to whats known as the darkages in England between 500AD-900AD.

Hi Jay,
yes the ring will be treasure trove,i have 14 day's to register it,then you wait for the British museum to finish with it be for it go's to the county coroner to declare it as treasure and then some months later a value will be put on the ring,the farmer who's land it was found and i will go 50-50,all this can take up to a year if not longer.
Detectorist have complained that the amounts that the treasure trove value the items is mostly on the low side
i have been told that the ring could make upwards of £4000,which will great for the farmer to hear as she don't know yet that the ring as even been found.I'm going to see her next week to let her know all about how the system works.
When there i will let her try the ring on,that will be cool. 8) 8) 8)

yes 4 hearts,that would have had enamel or some sort of stone within.

Jorge is correct. Lovely ring, must have belonged to a very special lady.

Dr. Jack Ogden is a friend...since he's taken the helm of GEM-A (Gemmological Association of Great Britain) I'm not sure if he still does work for the British Museum but he's one of the specialists who authenticates gold pieces. I'm sure he'd enjoy a look & could probably tell you more about your ring.

That is one INCREDIBLE ring!

Unbelievable. The delicate work on that is astonishing--and I'm sure it's 24K or close. It is VERY lucky to have been spared from the plow all these years.
