ok I am pumped up again today, indian pennies are my absolute favorite coin and today I found my oldest so far. Just friday I broke my record for my oldest US coin when I found that 1882 seated dime,

now today I broke my record again by finding an 1865 indian penny. It is rough and even bent a little, but I don't care. I am still smiling !! ;D

I also got a 1944 mercury dime, a cool toy badge, and some clad. Another great hunt with my new X-70, loving this machine more everytime I use it.

Very cool! Can you read what the "badge" says??
no I cannot, it was deep and directly underneath a big tree root, took me forever to get it out....lol

Love the coloring on that penny! Some really good finds!

G4 - I think you just might have a real Police Officer's badge there. I tried to play with the shadows and highlights a little - hope it helps. Looks to read - SERGEANT at the top - something ELS(?) POLICE with 114 at the very bottom. Any cities or towns ending with EL(S) in your area? That would be pretty neat to find out it's origin... Nice digs!

Crap! Thought I was finally gonna return the favor and identify something first! Definitely a Dragnet badge, always remembered the "714" for some unknown 70's partying reason. Soooo close!

What keeps getting to me though is if you look where Los Angeles would be - the last two letters should be ES. This looks like it has another letter between the E and S. Maybe an "error" badge? :icon_scratch:

good job on IDing the badge! you guys are GOOD!!!

sgt. friday was an honorary LAPD officer, his badge was official issue, retired after his demise.
i do believe calif frowns upon people carrying around official badges, and this badge is a replica, purposefully misspelled?

ain't google wonderful?

great finds.
