Here's the first bag I finished.

50 lbs of Quickrete all purpose sand. Only found five small specks of very fine gold, but there was gold! There was also a good bit of black sand. I examined a lot of the bigger pieces of gravel and noticed a good amount of quartz chunks mixed in with it. So it's a little promising, but not sure if I will buy any more these bags. It wasn't until after I finished I noticed the fine print on the bag said it was coarse "washed" sand! So maybe the fact that it was washed might have hurt my chances a little. My next try will be a sixty pound bag of tube sand.

In Ohio you would want either unwashed sand or Mason sand. At least in the '60s in Ohio the Mason sand was the last product out of the wash plant and it was usually slurried out with all the wash water. I'd even bet you could find gold in the terraced s&g of the Muskigum River in SE OH. That is a glacial wash out area. OH GPA has sites on one of it's tributaries.
