I hiked into a spot that I have had my eye on for some time. It's about a mile or so back in the woods around some huge rocks. From my research I found weak reports that the rocky area was once used during the Civil War as camp. I detected the area for about 2 hours and found just a few rusted up nails and this single shell casing. It looks like it would fit a pistol but I'm not sure. Can anyone date this? Thanks for looking

Looks like a 22 short. They were often used as training rounds in rifles. It could be a 32 rimfire, but it looks a little small...
