Nice finds...that eagle button is a staff officer button, with the backmark you can narrow it down to a time period when it was manufactured, it may be Civil War.
 

there's no backmark at all... or it's gone, but it don't look like it ever had one.

If I'm not mistaken, if you write the information down from that bird tag, like location where it was found, tag number and send it to the DNR, they will send you back a report about the bird that it belonged too. You would need to tell them that you found the tag without the bird. Nice find.

I'm interested in this info. myself. What are the markings on the band? http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl/

it's the top of a hatpin i think...

0155 are the only markings on the band...
