Begginer's Luck Or Fool's Gold...??

I just spent an hour trying to format the pictures with the proper text only to hit the wrong button and... POOF!! So the shortened version.

I am new at hunting. I found a piece of painted pottery that is gorgeous. I returned to the same area last week. After 6-7 hours of great finds I stumble upon what appears to be the same color and texture as the pottery I had found. It was also surrounded by large flakes of arrowheads/artifacts. What got my attention was the colors as I am a classically trained painter.

A friend who is a seasoned hunter saw the original piece and pegged it for a vase of some kind. He pointed out the incline, or lip, of about .5" on the inside. I tried to capture that in the second picture.

Here is what I took with me in the waning light. I do not know what to look for but when I find that many flint objects and decoratively painted rocks I know that is good. Throw in the fact that it is off the beaten path and on a conspicuously higher level than the surrounding topography and my excitement grew. These are just a few examples of the many I have and I did not include the arrowhead flakes, some of which were substantially pristine for a beginner.

I plan on returning tomorrow and thought asking for help here made the most sense in case I am wrong, which is the case more often than should be fair!! Critiques are welcomed!! If you want to learn you must accept being wrong and acquire the thick skin which eases the blows. Apologies if I screw up the text and the corresponding pictures.

Pictures 1 and 2 are the original piece of painted pottery. The others were found within a 7-9 foot diameter of one another. The guitar pick is one inch.

I wish I could tell you something about your find(s), Nigel, but can't due to knowing absolutely nothing about it.

I see everyone has been reading your post and not replying. Your pottery is way diffrent than what i find. Not doubt that is what it is question is what culture. With pottery you can usually pen a time zone and type so you may know more about it already than we do.
I see the flint nodule broke in half. I cant tell if its worked.

I did see the impression of Jesus in your pottery though and no I do not do drugs, lol.

I think they look more like Mastadon fossil teeth to me. Exspecially that first pic.

looks to me that there was a house there at one time in the past.
i don;t see Mastad on fossil teeth ,looks more like a broken clay statue. of some kind,
not Indian artifacts
other that that one peace of flint.

There was actually quite a bit of Indian artifacts. There were more arrowhead shards that I started putting them in one pocket because I was hurrying and one cut a hole!! That is, uh mm, in my shorts pocket in case anyone is cringing. I can get a few pictures of some decently sized arrowheads that are what I will call nice shards and some preforms, if not actual tools.

As for TnMountain also seeing Jesus, obvious to me from the first gaze, I appreciate the validation. Although now it resembles Mao Zedong...?? ;D ;D ;D

I will add the pics shortly and the best news of all is I have the entire afternoon and evening tomorrow to confuse myself even more. Thanks to everyone for your help. Once uniface threw in the towel I knew it might get ugly.

A little thick to be like any pottery I've seen. Interesting though, Nigel. If it appeals to you, as an artist, it doesn't much matter. Keep at it, I believe you have the bug.

I think you found some rocks, but that first piece is kind of intriguing. I notice it appears to be heart shaped, which might have some significance. I hope somebody on here can give us an ID on it. Turn it up to 11 and post some more pics. Cool finds! (Chalcedony is the word you're lookin for, Chong 2)
