Thirst and intense wanting (desire), is a good beginning, now go study, young grasshopper. :laughing7:

Rebel, ya wanna lets disagree on something, (perhaps to make him happy)? :laughing7:
Seems we have much in common, mostly unstated.
Love and peace to you both, and to all.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,"

Indeed.

Shakespeare... the Spear Shaker! Aka Sir Francis Bacon, ROSICRUCIAN (OLD "school"); which ALSO "influenced" Thomas Jefferson, when TJ was in France.

Bill: Lol, Bill Shakespeare, not what it says on the birth certificate though...probably more like William. Bill fits you better, more friendly and inviting. Here is a story I would like to have some input on.

Picture it, Virignia Beach, 1993:

I was working at a ballfield concession stand getting paid four dollars an hour in cash at the end of each shift. I collected the money in my sock draw and had it separated out into 1, 5, and 10 dollar bills. One of my friends was over and saw the stack of ones and said, "Wow, you got a lot of those, how much is that?" I was not in the habit of counting them out so I didn't know. I trusted this friend implicitly, so I handed him the stack and said "count it." When he got to the last bill in the stack he had counted "38." Written on the front of the dollar bill was the number "38.00." My friend knew my handwriting and saw that it was clearly not mine. He dropped the stack on the floor. I still have that dollar bill, stored in a safe place.

What are the chances of me acquiring a dollar bill that has the number 38.00 written on it? What are the chances that I would have exactly 38 one dollar bills? The chances of it being the last bill in the pile are one in 38. These bills were collected a few at a time over a three month span. Each time I put the new bills on top of the old. So, that means the first bill I acquired was the one with 38.00 on it; hence, why it was counted last from top to bottom.

Any ideas?

Crispin,

You've got me confused again.....and I played with numbers my whole career....I'll sleep on it and see what my twisted sub conscience comes up with...lol.

Speaking of subconscious since this has a lot of what this thread is all about....back in the 1970's I was a member of the Rosicrucians for about 2 years.....it was a bit to other worldly to my taste....but what I did learn was to flip complex ideas, issues and problems to my sub conscience to sort out and the answer would pop up at some point in time.....lol.

So when some of my oddball posts pop up it's probably their fault and not mine....that's my story and I'm sticking to it....lol.

Bill,

The subconscious is a powerful tool, use it wisely. Everybody on this forum has probably experienced a moment when they could not remember the name of something but KNEW they knew it. It will suddenly pop into their brains hours later, unsolicited. Why? The subconscious was working on it. Going through millions and millions of neuronal tracks, jumping from node to node, until it finally found the right path. If they eyes are the window to the soul then dreams are the window to the subconscious. Tread carefully you must. Journey into the subconcious dangerous, it is.

Thank you, Bill, I love it! Had never heard this artist before, can add it to my fav's list. Thanks again!

So I see we've gone from brain dead to the sub-conscious. Ya'll may appreciate this story. It's true.
One Saturday evening, years years ago, I'm making out my bills. Something told me to write down the last two numbers as I am balancing the checkbook, after each check I write. I come up with 5 sets of numbers and write them on the back of my bellsouth/att bill. I think to myself, I should probably go play these numbers on lotto tonight.
Well...... I fell asleep.......
The next day I check the lotto numbers, and ALL 5 NUMBERS I had wrote down were there! :o
Whose to say, I wouldn't have picked the 6th number?
The payout on the 5 numbers were exactly the amount it would have taken to pay my house off. $17k!
I stuck the bill with the numbers back somewhere in my home. I have no clue where.
That would be the only "proof" I may have, if I was to find that paper, compare the numbers with my check register and dates.

Why oh why, didn't I act on that?
BangHead.gif
Or buy them 10 acres at 25k, that's now worth 10 mill!?
BangHead.gif
BangHead.gif

reasons for everything, I say, reasons..... and hafta leave it at that.......

I gets lots of synchronicities in numbers, and I can't even change a lightbulb, no wait.....
I can't even do algebra! LOL! :laughing7:

I'll tie brain death and subconscious back together. Imagine all the work Rebel's subconscious was doing in the 2.5 months he was in a coma. No wonder he has so many things figured out.

I thought about playing the lottery with the one dollar bill that had 38.00 written on it, but quickly discarded that idea.

Another funny story:

Picture it, South Africa, 2008, the World Cup:
My brother and I just watched South Africa play its final group round match at a fan stadium in Durban. Neither one of us particularly had any attachment to the South African team; however, routing for the home country at a fan stadium is great fun and excitement. When the match was over we followed the masses of drunk fans to the casino that was convienently 1/2 mile away. (Guess who helped pay for the fan stadium...Harrah's.) Anyhow, I never play roullete but I had too much to drink and there was no way I was going to attempt to count cards at blackjack in that state. The minimum at the tables was pretty low so we didn't mind rolling around fifty dollars or so. We had been there for about thirty minutes having a good time, making friends, drinking, causing a rucous, and I was about even on the night; when, the one inside number I play finally hit (black 10.) Thirty to one odds on a five dollar bet, awesome! I was celebrating, jumping around, hooting, blowing my vuvuzela, and in general getting pats on the back. The ball spinner guy started the wheel again and I had not picked up by bet yet. Bleep-bleep, bleepity bleep, I knew better then that. My payoff was back in play! Black ten hits twice in a row! No celebrating this time. Thirty to one payout on the thirty to one payout on the original five bucks. My brother and I picked up all the money and bolted out of the casino. We spent it all that night. Don't ask me on what...I swore an oath.

Rip, roaring, and ready to go. Fire away.

AND! I had a NIGHT CLASS on NUMBERS, previously; the ONLY numbers you need, are 1 - 9; ALL the OTHER numbers "added up" to one of the BASIC numbers... 10 = 1 + 0 is 1... I HATED Math & numbers when I was growing up. I wrote the stuff down in a journal, what I learned "there"; the MYSTERY of the number 9 is AWESOME! Then, it went into right brain/left brain dominance... WHOO!

Over the counter Melatonin: Several different companies produce OTC melatonin for sleep. There are medical studies showing it can be beneficial for sleep. There is not a lot of research on this because there is no cash incentive to PHARMA to do so. Currently, there is one prescriped med similiar to Melantonin called ROZEREM. Rozerem is a melatonin receptor agonist. It is inactive until it crosses the blood brain barrier. Once it crosses it becomes active and binds to receptors similiar to how melatonin does. In theory, it should produce the same results. It is a very safe medication with little side effects. However, it is expensive. I prescribed it when it first came out but I was not having good results. In theory: It takes 45minutes to become effective after taking it, so you have to plan ahead. In theory: It is supposed to be taken every day around the same time. It is supposed to behavioral condition your brain to get used to having a stimulus for sleep. It is not addictive. You cannot develop a tolerance. You cannot get high on it. When people ask me about it now I tell them to save their money and buy OTC melatonin.

Back to OTC melatonin: I have many patients who have found this to be helpful and swear by it. The vast majority of my patients do not. I think it really depends on the cause of the insomnia. In general, I would guess, that 15-25% of people who take it find it effective. If the insomnia is a symptom of depression then it will not help. If the insomnia is a symptom of PTSD then it will not help. If the insomnia is side effects to other medications that are being taken (Ie..narcotics, muscle relaxers and others) then it will not help. If the insomnia is due to poor sleep hygiene or generalized insomnia then it can be very helpful. Sleep hygiene is EXTREMELY important. A lot of people have this image that they should be asleep as soon as their head hits the pillow and wake up 8 hours later. This is not how it works.

Sleep Hygiene:
1. Get the TV out of your bedroom! The bedroom is for sleep and sex. You can behaviorally condition your body to associate it with sleep.
2. Don't drink alcohol or caffeine before bed.
3. Plan on falling asleep an hour before bed and start relaxing and unwinding. Do not watch CSI and expect to fall asleep five minutes later.
4. Put the clock in a place you can't see it. CLOCK WATCHING makes it worse. If you are afraid you will not get up then set a second alarm.
5. Don't fight it. If you are not asleep in 20 minutes then get out of bed, walk around for a minute and then get back in bed.
6. There are many other things that can be helpful. These are just a few.

Crispin,

Just fate, serendipity, etc....it was just destined to be.....sort of like our paths crossing...who knows why....

But then again maybe our motley crew were all together in another life....if so we were probably a bunch of court jesters....lol.

TY, THAT is sorta what I was looking for; SLEEPLESS Vets NEED this info. You started this "thread" on Brain Death; I am not "Brain Dead", when I go to "Night Classes", as OTHERS have done so, ALSO. Will start a NEW "thread": Consciousness, Brain, THETA, & "Night Classes"; SHOULD be interesting... I will share what I learned about MELATONIN.
