My friendly farmer had given me a field to detect in the next village, but due to the snow cancelling a shoot on another farm I won't be able to detect it for a few more weeks. In compensation he has let me go on my fave field for a while. This is the first time my farmer has let me detect on growing crops, and a kind of an honour . Trouble is, it was bitterly cold today (minus 1c) and after a short while my fingers were killing me, tomorrow I will take my shooters mitts . I didn't find too much in the short time I was out there, 4 coins, a thimble, some buttons (one is a fox face livery), a pistol ball, a lead seal of some sort and a gold plated brass wedding band. So far I have only cleaned the wedding band, I will clean the other items tomorrow.
I did get one very interesting hit with the detector on the way back, a strong mid tone in both directions. When I dug down about 9 or 10 inches I saw a metal lid of some sort, it was an intact white glass jar. The lid has got "Pond's" written on it, and it was sitting in the hole as if someone had placed it there. I will take a better picture tomorrow in daylight. I haven't opened it yet, should I?. Anyway enjoy the pics.
