Crusader thinks it was mass produced back then and it's just a random find. I'm saying it would be an amazing coincidence finding that brooch at a place Eleanor Roosevelt frequented and it wasn't her brooch.

Does that explanation clarify it for you?

Never said mass produced (only that that are tons of types of sweetheart brooches produced in both WW's & in fact many of them were one-off's), custom made for a sweetheart.

As its made up of elements of several brooches, its does suggest a custom route.

I think we all want it to be but let’s not get too excited here and start throwing banner around. Great coincidental find but until we have actual picture proof that’s all we have. Fingers crossed for you.

I think if it wasn't Eleanor Roosevelt's, then it was somebody close to her social circle. Or somebody who was a fan of the dog. Supposedly the dog was really famous and quite popular at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if the dog had US Secret Service/FBI protection too. And at a time the US was in a major war, no doubt. You could post a local ad soliciting information. Maybe somebody local remembers it?

i agree until there is proof positive it is just a silver brooch not a banner find....just yet տլ looking for the proof is the fun part but very time consuming

That's a great find and I hope it can be connected to Eleanor Roosevelt.

A good story and find. A photo of her wearing it or it appearing on a list of her personal items or mentioned in one of her 2 million + papers would be needed in my opinion to prove authenticity. I've owned several pieces of similar sweetheart jewelry over the years. What type of proof or documentation is there of her actually riding horses on the property besides word of mouth? My apologies if this has been disussed already. I didn't read everything. Sitting at the hospital on my phone.

I'm afraid that Bramblefind has solved the mystery. What we have not seen is a picture of Eleanor wearing this brooch. What we have seen is pictures of examples of sterling silver TruArt jewelry which used all elements present in the found brooch. I'll admit that this was an exciting story with neat possibilities, but the evidence has not supported that story.

It's still a neat war time find. It's silver and it's got a doggy on it, so I don't think there is really anything to be disappointed about here.

I too think Bramblefind and Crusader have a solid handle on this unusual and intriguing find ! Too often our desire for a find to be central to a big story causes us to miss the less glamorous truth !

Loads of these made during both WW's & they come in all types.

"Loads of these" would be a mass produced item in my book. Sorry if I misunderstood your definition of the word "loads".

loads, Informal. a great quantity or number:

great photos of the truart jewelry
what makes my piece different is the placement of the scottie and the addition of great seal
but i understand that unless i can find photo evidence or some other documentation it is only a piece of ww2 jewelry

I also believe "the placement of the scottie" is important. The setting that the "scottie" is in may be of importance especially if it was
a commissioned/custom piece. (Someone's farm, ranch, estate etc.) One of many possibilities is that the piece you found could have
been designed & commissioned to Truart by Eleanor Roosevelt & gifted to her friends at the farm/ranch where she rode her horse as a
token of thanks, then Truart may have used the setting for future pieces they made & "glommed on" rather than "embedded within" Scotties &
other animals, not to destroy the uniqueness of the original commissioned piece. Below is a picture of a Truart example I found that has a
cow "glommed on" rather than "embedded within" the same setting as your piece.

As usual great research, I just throw out my usual WAG based on the elements I could see & the fact it followed the usual elements of a Sweetheart Brooch, which I still think is the most likely. The Seal at the bottom may have been added later, & not commissioned by the maker or maybe it was?? (hopefully a little more research will narrow it)
