Your owners manual will give you a very basic understanding, but still leaves things up to question. I recommend watching Gary's videos on YouTube, then read Andy's book. Gary's videos will give you a better appreciation on what the book covers. The tones and range are customizable based on what you are looking for which is part of what makes the XP so great.

Gary's videos are amazing and a great suggestion as a good place to start... I have watched them each many times.

Here is a playlist with all of them in it. The vol 1 - 10 tutorials start at index 7 in that playlist... you can probably just watch them all though.



Gary explains everything so well in those videos. Gary has a website too with a lot of info on the Deus. If I'm not mistaken, he made those videos on his youtube channel gardansolyn and has since been employed by XP and they got moved to a different channel. I remember watching them last year on his own channel, but now they are on xpmetaldetector channel.
