use baking soda and vinegar, mix them together until you get a paste the cover the coin,, check it after a couple of minutes so you get the shiny effect, repeat if nec. it worked well for me

It could always be done. Not sure I'd like the outcome for crud on a coin. Of course, if I really don't care about the "end state" it might be an interesting experiment!
Hey Mick....I'm thinkin' a tumbler is just used for clad....:dontknow:

Big time coin dealers will tell you not to clean coins that worth more then face value which I agree with.
