Re: Coin ID's...Help please!!! Several

First is an ancient Roman coin. Any legible inscriptions? Looks a bit like Didius Iulianus (193 A.D.).

Second is a brass imitation Bust & Harp token struck for circulation in Lower Canada.

Third is an 1837 political/satirical Hard Times token struck by opponents of Martin Van Buren.

Nice.........We found a Harps Token this year. The Van Buren is classified as an L18-HT32 in the Red Book.

L18 is "Low 18" and refers to the catalog number for one variety of this token in Lyman H. Low's book, Hard Times Tokens.

HT32 is the catalog number used for the same variety in Russell Rulau's books Hard Times Tokens and United States Tokens, 1700-1900.

Your roman coin is probably a sestertius of Marcus Aurelius, possibly his son Commodus or maybe even his co emperor Lucius Verus, looks like Aurelius to me though,161-180 A.D. looks like your friend got a nice lot. Kane 23

That hard times token, HT32 is also counterstamped with "JNB" I think. That makes it somewhat more interesting. It dates from 1837 but someone later stamped it for their own use or advertisenment. I'm not sure who or what this "JNB" was. HT32 is fairly common and has a value of $3.50(VG) in my 1999 catalogue.

Been working on that, too. "JNB" doesn't seem to be listed in Brunk's Merchant and Privately Countermarked Coins.

I think actually it's a coin of Antonius Pious

wow...could be...hair looks different though....but the obverse is right on....there were probably variations??
You can also just make out the last three letters on your coin(avg) which match up to Antonius Pious on the picture I posted. 99% certain it's this coin
