Cru'Dad's Lucky Hunt!!!

Whilst I was down the pub, Dad was still trying for likely places ready for the weekend. It was another huge Barley stubble field, which we had never hunted but had very little going for it!

He only hunted for 1.5 hours & got a very lucky find & it happened as follows;

He had dug up 2 large plough shears & was carrying them to the edge quickly to get them off the field. He got another banging signal & thought he was in for another plough bit but dug a:

Charles I
1642-43
Halfcrown
King on horse back riding left
[CARLOVS.D.G.MA]G.BRI.FRA.ET.HIB.[R]EX

Oval draped shield
Bugle mint mark
Truro Mint
[CHRISTO.AVSPI]CE.RE[GNO]

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

This is now our largest denomination of hammered ever found ;D

Hip Hip Hooray for your Dad :notworthy: I also believe that it should be on the banner. Charles I was coming to his end already and in a couple of years he will lose his head.

Not to worry, I understand you need to be a member to make the Banner & Dad is not.

I'm itching for some of our sites to be harvested but they are some weeks away from being done :P

Tremendous find. Looks like it's edges were trimmed a bit.
Congrats to your Dad. I might have traded a pint for that find.....

The expression is clipped, & yes its been heavily clipped, it was a fairly common practice although you would have had your hand chopped off if you were caught. Clipping during Charles I's reign increased as we were at Civil War & there was a shortage of coins.
Trimmed was my tongue-in-cheek...but you are correct, as usual ! I imagine there must have been a few guys over there named 'Lefty' as a result.
Have you and your Dad managed to find a coin from every reign yet (that produced coins)? Seems to me you both have collected enough to get the series.

Still plenty to get, specially in the Celtic, Roman, Saxon series. Most 13th century to modern are covered.

As its lost quite a bit of its edges by clipping it would have been bigger :o Imagine what a full Crown would look like (twice the weight & nearly twice the size!), not likely to ever get one of those, but we live in hope.

Well, if there was anyone who could fill the gaps, it would be you and your Dad. I'm always amazed at the level of finds but I know they aren't by accident. Keep it going and best of luck.

try to have the complete collection of coins produced in the country ... or only those that circulated in their country (in the case of Roman coins is impossible). :dontknow:
