I rarely take the D2 off my MXT as its a deep coil and separates pretty good, I run at +2 gain and get dimes at 10"+. I had the 300 loop and I seem to get as deep with the D2 with better separation and have two of them now. I have heard some people saying its not the same coil when on the DFX though, I think maybe more noise running the D2 on the DFX so you might want to ask on a different site as well if need be to talk to someone with a DFX who's tried that coil.

The 300 is going to be deeper, unless you are operating in fairly mineralized soil. Because the D2 is an elliptical coil, it will have the advantage then. The D2 is also lighter, which can count for a lot.
