I found this 1854 Seated Half Dollar recently in the backyard of a home I believe was built in the 1940's, but we were finding flat buttons and other signs that there was something there earlier than that. Thought I'd post it since it's the first Seated I've ever dug.

Spectacular! Not only did you find seated, it was a Arrows type half dollar. Not only is it a half dollar, but a REALLY nice one. Way to go and congratulations!

If you're gonna find a seated half, THAT'S the way to do it! What a beauty.

Nicest seated half I've ever seen from out of the ground! How deep was it?

Mine was a quarter at 4" - remember it well. How deep was this one?

Thanks for all the comments/replies! It was certainly a nice surprise to see it come out of the ground.

It was right around 5".

Wow - that's a pretty impressive way to break the seated coin barrier. Still haven't found one of those myself. Great find!!
