Eagle button & My Great Uncle

I made a trip up to Northern Indiana last weekend, and I saw some white stuff that I think they called "snow" (pronounced ssss-no).
Man, was it cold up there. :tongue3: Anyways, I was able to see my brother and my uncle while I was there.
My uncle enjoys seeing the things I dig up when I e-mail them to him, especially the CW relics. Little did I know, he was a CW nut too.
He gave me some great old magazines that he had saved over the years called "Civil War Times". There are about 20+ issues with half being from 1977 and the other half from 1983. I was dying to read them as I drove back 13 hours to NC, but I figured I better keep an eye on the road. Besides, I couldn't drive, read, and talk on the cell all at the same time. :tard:
"THANKS UNCLE RON"

I don't think I've detected or posted since I found that half dime last week, so here are a few items I found at the plantation house today in the horse pasture. Again, I had cut way back on my discrim & it paid off. ;D

*14mm EAGLE button (cuff) - with shank & back mark, but I can't make out the back mark. :icon_scratch:

*19mm heavy (brass ?) flat button - with shank but no back mark. :(

*Asst'd who knows what & a lead shot.

I'm hoping to detect on Saturday with DD-777 (Andy) and Mave2535 (Chris) at their maverick site. I was told to wear a dress and bring plenty of beef jerky. :icon_scratch: Not sure what they have in mind butt I'll keep a good eye on those two. I may be older & shorter than them, but I can kick like a mule! :tongue3: ;D
Thanks for looking,
MM

Cool stuff and nice button  !!!!

This may be a button made by the Scovill Mfg. company in Waterbury, Connecticut. I found a similar one in my ranch down in south Texas by the Rio Grande. There was a Fort built there in 1848 during the Mexican/American war. Check this site out http://www.relicman.com/backscovillm.htm

Here is the button I found...

Re: Eagle button & My Great Uncle

Nice Finds, I have found many Eagle buttons here in Ohio, but in Oct./November I found my first
Eagle button at a CW site at Brandy Station, Va. What a great feeling that was, to stand on a site
that was used by Confederates and Union solders over 140 years ago.

By the way, I'm retired, also tired of the snow here in Ohio and could be on my way very quickly
to drive down your way to help you hunt that bean field. LOL

Doug,
Nice button. I have discovered that we now have your finger prints on file. That camara is top notch.
Joe
Which dress are you wearing?

Thanks Joe.
My camera is actually a dinosaur that holds an old 3.5" floppy disk. It's a Sony Mavica (circa early to mid 1800's). :tongue3:
As far as dress choices, due to the brisk weather and trying to keep my finely shaven legs from getting too dry, I chose this little wool lined number. It really keeps my perfectly shaped tush warm. :icon_sunny:
Hopefully you had dinner before you read this. ;D
Have a good one buddy!

Nice eagle button Doug. We got some of that white crap up here the other night. We're supposed to get more in a day or so. WONDERFUL. Nice to see you guys have a shared interest. I used to be fascinated with everything civil war also. Now it's WW II stuff. Probably since my dad fought in it. I'm hoping for a weekend lull in the cold crap.
Chris

Thanks Chris.
I've been hooked on the CW relics since my first 3-ringer. I'm privileged enough to be right around some great CW activity in this area too as you know.
I found this WWII Army Air Corps Collar button last month and I'd love to send it to you if you want it. Consider it an early Christmas gift. :icon_santa: It really has no meaning to me.
PM me your address.
Good luck this weekend. If there is snow, make your nephews shovel a path for you. ;D :tongue3:

Thanks RF. That's how I feel too about the CW relics I dig. Just to know you personally dug a piece of American history from that far back is a thrill. Who knows if our kids or their kids will get the same chance as we did. You are always welcome here in the great state of NC.
Just let me know. I always have an old spot or two to detect.
If I can put up with those old farts like Mirage and Burdie, I can put up with anyone. ;D ;D

I know Mirage, never met him, but have chatted lots with him. Love to show up down your way sometime, be fun to dig some really old relics. Thanks for the invite. I might even have a spot here in good old Ohio for you sometime. Best time around here is in the early spring or late fall, before and after the crops are off.
