Very nice EE, I'm not very educated on the Silver value of items myself ( more so in coins) but it seems you are, and you got everything well under what you were setting your limits at, so I'd say you did really great! Glad you finally scored some nice finds!

Nice boxes of halves you had there too! I know you were happy opening those rolls. HH, Maverick.

Only thing I didnt get for my limit were the last two candle sticks, I had a typo, I set a limit of $10 and she said I bid $15 but I was not going to argue it since I got great deals on everything else. The bowl though had me worried all the way home, until I could get the bottom off.

As for being knowing the silver value. I bring a scale with me and it helps having scrapped a few items, you get to know what the weights should be somewhat and bid accordingly. Sometimes I lose but most times I dont, I just get out bid. I am a cheapy, I usually wont go above 80% of melt value. I really set two limits, my soft 80% limit and the hard cap if I choose to go that route.

As for the halves, I hope they continue, that is how my boxes used to produce until the new pallet came into play.

i just got through the first page and I think I caught myself drooling. Sir you seem to have this down to an art. I hope you got that boat also. I've seen some spray on stuff on tv that will make it float again.

I would not say I have it down to an art yet. When I can take stuff out from under the nose of Truman the Amishman without paying and bleeding out of my own nose, that is when I have it down to an art. As for the boat, I talked with a catfish guide and he says its been there for about 3 years. I must have been sorely mistaken when I thought I went over that spot weeks prior. I see no reason as to why he would lie to me so I must have made a mistake.

Still pondering risking the snow for todays auction.

Here is what is in store, picture intensive. All of it should be either silver or gold. I am risking this mini blizzard, if they will still be open, to go there and hopefully score some deals. If I dont go I wont be so upset, I think I did good this weekend, everything said and done, its been about a $1400 weekend.

EE, looks like you really cleaned up. What do you do with all that loot? eBay?

EE, looks like you really cleaned up. What do you do with all that loot? eBay?

Most of it I put in my safe and keep. Things like the Tiffany Cup and the Aria watch, I will resell and put the money into junk silver to boost my retirement funds some more. Everything else gets set aside for the next 20-25 years or until some emergency requires I use it.

I didnt make it to the auction, as I was getting ready to leave it started coming down real hard, checked the news and they were predicting upwards of 2 inches a hour of snow from 7am to 10am and a total of 10-12 inches for this storm in my area, I decided it was not worth the risk, I did just fine this weekend with $269.50 spent and a total metal value of $1452.66 or 82% profit.

This week is done, I scrapped out the two small candle sticks and the stem vase. I did better on the candle sticks than I thought I would and the stem vase held quite a bit more silver than I had expected. The candle sticks I had a limit of $15 originally and dropped to $10 due to second guessing myself and ended up pulling out about $30 worth of silver, the stem vase I originally had a max price of $39 for it but then dropped that to $29 because of my second guessing myself. Turns out it had 1.9703 oz worth of silver in it or $56 worth.

Well, after a little research, it appears that a new Revere bowl that size of the one I got runs about $5000. Not sure what the reproduction would run. I am working on getting a appraisal and getting a quote on getting the dings taken out of it.

Antique Roadshow is coming to town in Aug so I might have my mom take it down there with some of her stuff if I still have it, maybe even take a couple other items I have as well.

$42 in nickels done, Skunked
$650 in dimes done, 1 Rosie ( update list on Friday or Saturday)

Found some info on a bowl like mine that sold at Auction on June 21st 2012.

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetail.asp?ahid=4460&aid=53831&lid=13665015

It sold for $800 but it is tied to a ship that was used to transport troops and supplies among the islands of the South Pacific in the final months of World War II, stopping at Okinawa, Guam, and the Solomon Islands. After taking part in occupation operations in Japan, she spent the 1950s supporting various projects before being decommissioned in 1958 and destroyed in target practice.

Not as historic as my bowl.

Wreck of USS LST-577

I got an estimate to remove the dings and polish for $92 but it would be a 10 week time frame to get it back after sending it. I am going to get it appraised locally first to see if its worth it to do it. Working on getting to a somewhat local appraiser on Friday, if he is available.

Picked up another 4 silver quarters with the $20 my co worker gave me for gas.

The madness that is March is going to go out with a bang.

I am off of work tomorrow so.. its going to be a normal Friday run of 6 boxes of halves followed up by a road trip trying to collect as much silver as possible on my way to the Friday Auction.

Saturday there are two auctions in my crosshairs. One has a couple 10k gold pieces, some costume jewlery, nothing big and the second has 6+ items I spied from some pictures.

Hey EE, good luck at the auction! Hope your boxes give something up for you this week too! BTW, I buy Quarters ( 2-4) every week too, it will add up by the end of the year for sure, my goal is to have 150 put away by the end of the year. Also a good idea to get the bowl looked at and appraised first too I think. HH, Maverick.

Went and did my run today and already back from auction.

Hit my first pick up bank, they comment on how early I am ( paid day off from work ) and stuff and get me my boxes and some CWR's. The vault manager asks if I have found anything lately and I comment no, not much at all the last couple of months. Its really dried up with the proofs and Not Intended For Circulation halves. She says another guy asked for a box to be ordered and came back the next day and wanted to file a complaint because he didnt find anything. I laugh inside quite a bit thinking he is one of those morons who paid money for those 5 or 6 magical words and got skunked.

I search my customer wrapped rolls. and my 3 boxes

2 rolls of dimes, Skunked
3 rolls of quarters, Skunked

Box 1: 1/40%
Box 2: 5/40%
Box 3: Skunked

I got dump at my first dump bank, they comment on how early I am.. I get my coin dumped and move along.

I get to my second dump bank, they comment on how early I am and I hand them my bags. As they finish with my coin, I ask to buy the $10 in halves in the teller tray ( a single 40% in it ). She comments she has $470 in halves in a box that someone brought it. I tell her I will take it off her hands and she is super pleased.

I search those in the parking lot. The top 27 are rerolled back into their original wrappers. The last 20 have not even been opened. Could these be those picked up from my pick up bank? I think its quite possible that they are, who would open part of a box and leave the rest unopened unless it was someone who lost the drive to continue? The rest of the box was a skunk and he missed nothing in that box.

I go to my next pick up bank and get my 3 boxes and you guessed it, they comment on how early in the day I am there.

Box 1: 2/40%
Box 2: Skunked
Box 3: 14/40% - 3/64's - 1/walker - 1/Franklin

I head out of town and start my loop to dump and pick up more coin. I hit a couple banks along the way with no luck, I then hit the dump bank, drop off and decide to hit the one across the street. Never had luck there but it was worth a shot. Walk in, ask for Ikes, they have none, I ask for 50 cent pieces, they say they just got rid of them but would look anyways. The Teller checks the trays, nope, nope, nope, nope... wait yes, here we go, how many do you want? I say all, I hear her start counting, Tink, Tink, Tink, Tink... all I can think of is SCORE in my head. I get the $12.50 in halves to the car, count them out and there are 7/40% halves.

I hit a bank that has rewarded me with silver twice before, I have not been there in 3 months. Go inside and they tell me they have no halves in their machine. I have to think BS but its possible I guess... finally skunked by them.

I hit a pawn shop on the way to another dump bank, look around and found a 43 merc for $1.50 and snatch it up.

Dump my coin, hit another bank, the one where I scored the 4 solid rolls of Mercs, get dimes but they have sold most of their stock to the 'FED'. I was able to only get $100 worth which netted me a Rosie.

As for the auction, hit that, picked up a set of 14k post earrings for $1
A 1/20th 12k gold filled something or other for $1
A bracelet marked ITALY 14k for $5 which needs tested

Also, my fish scale weighed out my big bowl incorrectly but not by much, only about .80 oz. I had it weighed at the local coin shop

Two more auctions tomorrow and a dump of halves with more dimes and nickels to pick up and a final tally for the madness of March..

Well, my boxes are moving back to the normal that I was seeing in the middle of last year before I broke into that new pallet of skunks. Now that I am into the new pallet, I have found more silver in halves in the last 2 weeks than I have since the start of the year.

Hope it continues, this buying from auctions, though cheaper than buying at melt is still expensive on my wages. Time consuming as well. I might have to start entertaining the idea of buying and melting for profit to buy larger quantities and setting aside some of the profits since I am well ahead of the game now.

I am currently sitting at 362.7551 oz of silver.

My goal for March is 308 oz... smashed that.

My goal for April was 324 oz.. smashed that.

My goal for May was 349 oz... smashed that.

My goal for June was 360 oz... I have surpassed that.

I am 3 months ahead of where I want to be right now, that wont stop me from buying a good deal but with boxes producing again, that means I can lay off a little now and not jump on whatever I can find though I will scrape if I have to if I can get a awesome deal that makes mad profit.

I do hope to add a touch more to the pile today and then I think I will possibly scale back some of my auctioning. I will of course still do the local Friday nights. I will also do part 2 of the estate auction where I got that bowl on the 14th. Otherwise, unless something special pops up and slaps me in the face, its time to do a whole lot of fishing. water is rising, water is warming, weather is warming and the lake is calling me.

Didnt get the halves dropped off, will do that Monday. Drove by, didnt see the vault teller through the window so I passed up the bank to insure I get whatever dimes and nickels they have.

It was pouring rain, thundering and lightening all over the place up until noon. Saw the crazy cat lady at the first auction but as soon as she learned that the auction was outside, she left since she had nothing to keep her dry. This worked to my advantage.

I picked up 2 calligraphy pens with 14k tips for $20

They then went to choice items, first round got to $25. I picked up a 10k Pin and 10k heart pendent on 10k chain for $50 total.

Second round went for $7 I picked up 14k Tom and Jerry Pendent and 14k broken necklace for $14 total

Third round went for $2, I picked up a set of sterling ear rings

Fourth round I won for $1 and picked up a sterling pendent with a purple stone in it and a 12k gold filled chain and pendent. Not sure what percentage the fill is, I need to figure that out. I would think it would be 1/5th but I am marking it as 1/20th for the time being until I know more.

I left that auction and went to auction #2 where I scored pretty big. This auction was for a antique store that went out of business and they are trying to sell what they had left, this is sale 1 of 2.

I won a box of junk that had a 14k ring in it and a sterling belt buckle. The buckle doesnt amount to much, about $10 worth of silver but the ring is worth over $150, I paid $2 for the box

The final thing of the day was 3 sterling weighted candle holders for $11 ea.

Its going to be a couple days until I can tear the candle holders apart for their weight and the pens for their tips. Weights and numbers will not be up to date for a couple days, most likley monday at the earliest.

End of the month totals. I pulled it out in the last few weeks of the month, boxes started producing and some major scores both in Silver and Gold for me. I need to scale back my Auctioning since I scrap nothing, I dont see a return, its money set aside. I am going to focus on getting the Tiffany cup sold and the Aria watch and cover their weights in silver and use the profits to put back into more CRH/Auction funds.
