Went out the other day and found a nice bottle. For a while my buddy and I have hit the old dump site and have recovered some nice finds, but recently the city has decided to turn the site into a residential development and has leveled the place burying all the good stuff. This site has produced numerous old coins foreign and domestic from copper, brass and silver to an abundance of WW1 and WW2 buttons and pins. We have also found a lot of old marbles (clay, glass and stone). And one thing for certain, you will find some sort of old bottle from medicine, snake oil, some sort of almond extract, and soda pop bottles (coke, Dr. Pepper, Texan, and ect...) Our time is short and this honey hole is coming to an end. dde1e. Goodbye Barbs, Walkers, Bens, Indian Heads, buffalos, merc, Mexican coins pre-estados and others... It was good while it lasted!

Hello Texas,

Sorry to hear of the loss of a productive dump. Are you able to dig like crazy for a bit? I'd like to see more views of your Empire bottle. Is it marked with contents information? What is on the base? You may be interested in this excellent history by Bill Lockhart: Empire Bottling Works.

Those bottles need a good bit of cleaning with some CLR, it looks like that Empire bottle has a bit of scaling though :sad10:

"Bottle scaling is a condition particular to dug bottles which are periodically or continually subjected to underground water conditions. Like pitting, scaling is actual glass deterioration which manifests as rough swirls in the glass and/or glass "layering" which appears as irregular marks, similar to whittle, but less uniform in shape and size. Like pitting, scaling can only be removed by heavy tumbling, so is pretty devastating, condition-wise."

Hello surf, here's a few pictures of the bottle. It has a nice purple tint to it and some air bubbles within the glass... Let me know if you want to see more pics... Always a pleasure
