I started swinging near where they had the gas line marked that seemed like it eas dug at an earlier time, about 4 to 5 feet from the line i got a booming hit at about 4 inches and this was it .Not sure if it's real or not but got my heart pumping about the size of a half dollar kinda heavy and why would there have been a hole in it then filled

Great find man! You see many more milled 8 reale coins than cobs that are found on the terra firma. This is a banner find and my vote is going in now!

Well since the "expert" is wrong on one account, the Feversham was not coming from New York, it was going to New York, and that is an easy fact to find. I'd like to see just one other coin that that is "plugged" remotely like yours.

PS. My best digging buddy ZDD (Zodiak Diver Dave) has dove on the Feversham.
Just because someone works for an expensive auction house don't necessarily make them an expert, and that is, BTW, precisely the reason I don't believe in coin grading companies.

Rick: Perhaps the "fact" you speak of is too easy to find? Not everything you read in Wikipedia is correct. The Feversham sailed from New York in 1711 for an attack on the French in Quebec.

Very cool find .
I can only imagine the items that were purchased over the period of history with that one single coin .

That's an awesome comment. Never fully considered that.

Man, that thing is huge! If that is not legit, then someone has spent a heck of long time fashioning a counterfeit that would pass for a museum piece. Definitely banner-worthy!

Hi guy; AWESOME FIND. Yes it is real. I think that back then it was a common practice to put a hole in a coin and put it on a chain for safe keeping. Then when they went to cash it the person they were paying would take a % off the coins value because some of the silver was missing so that person would sometimes refill he hole with silver to regain the coins value. This was a common practice ok. Anyways THAT is an awesome coin. Congrats. I have not found one in 2 years now. Time to end my drought. Anytime you want to come to Boston let me know. We can hook up here ok. PEACE:RONB

What have you not found in two years now? In your earlier post you said you had never found a cob??
