I don't know what it is. the MD Gods, Mental Block, a curse, whatever. But for some reason, despite finding a Seated Half, 18th Century Copper and Relics, numerous Mercs and Rosie's, The 20th Century Silver quarter (and half) have be dodging me for 3 YEARS. Well today, that changed.

My wife and I went up to the Local high school, where we have hunted many times. I've have found silver coins (my first, a 1919 Merc was found at this school) and gold jewelry here in the past. We are working a small patch of wood chips next to the basket ball courts that we worked once before and found clad. We had dug nearly $2.00 already, when she called me over to check a signal with my MXT. I swept it, Choppy Single like a POP Top. I get down to dig it the PLACATE the wife. She doesn't do all her own digging. Kicked some dirt out and re-scan it. +81 VDI on the MXT Pro shows up. Hmm, thinking we just found another dime, I dug it out. It was under the mat. I saw the silver of a quarter and the Eagle on the Back. I didn't give it any thought "Kewl, another quarter". Then I was looking at the date, Hey, that looks like a 4 next to the 9, Sheeeesh, It's silver, 1944(d) woohoo, finally the curse is broken. I look up at my wife, she says "It's not Gold". I certainly hope this means many more are coming.

Really neat. I found something like 40 silver before I found my first silver Washington, even though I had found 2 SLQ (1 eyeballed) and two Barber quarters. It became a bit of a joke really. I would find a silver dime and 10 feet away my buddy finds a silver quarter.

Congrats! A 41D Washington was my second silver, and no other silver quarters after that.

That's sparse. I guess seeing them posted so frequently makes is seem like they are more commonly found. Logically, the would be lost less frequently by their size, and found early on for the same reason. I've still found more gold jewelry than silver quarters, and that makes the wife happy. LOL. I Still have all the Barber Silvers to find, SLQ, Walker halves and a silver dollar of any kind. Never ending. Thanks for ringing in.

Lol at your wife saying " It's not gold! "[emoji1] There's just no pleasing them, is there? Congrats on the find. I'm not certain, but my first silver Washington might have been found when I tumbled my clad, lol, so I don't even know where it was found!

My first silver was a Washington quarter but I have yet to find a barber or walkers. Merc's are the most common silver for me, they must have been a bit poorer in my area. :) Congrats on your first!

There is no rhyme or reason to it. My area is pounded, you would think the quarters would be the first to go. I read about you guys saying that you don't find quarters. Silver quarters love me, they run to me. Sometimes I feel cursed because I have not found a seated anything. I know I probably sound like I'm just bragging (of course what is our site for?) JK But just like deer hunting most of my life, I always knew guys that BIG bucks would always end up running to them. This was purely a luck thing because I'm talking, "club hunting/drives" I have seen this since starting metal detecting. Couple of my buddies, one in particular, finds a gold ring, three days later sells it for 5800.00, then a month later finds a burglars stash of jewelry that we still don't know what its worth. (I think he is hiding from IRS) I'm glad you found your quarter, just very interesting how it pans out. You would hate me if I put my totals up. I think because of my amount of time spent detecting, makes a HUGE difference, I'm a stone cold detecting addict and detect almost every day.
