Hi!
I hope it's allowed to open new tread to new members :))

I need help with this ring..
It's found near my house ( I live near Illyrian fortress, also place with many Roman historical traces).
Detector said it's gold (or silver)

Thank You in advance!

( we have a lot similar things, but some next time)

First bit of advise, never believe your detectors VDI/VDU. Its not gold or silver, its a copper-alloy, most likely bronze. It is ancient, but I need a side profile to see how the ring attaches to the bezel?

PS Welcome to Tnet?:hello:

Also, size is small. Suits to pinky (smallest) finger.

That helps, I just don't know enough about your area finds to make a full ID. I think its Roman period, but that style came back in the middle Medieval, sorry not sure....

Bronze.
Precise 25 grams.
The assumption is that this is a weigh of something small.
15 sides and mark of sun (?).
Rome empire maybe?

Beautiful treasures you share...

Now that is interesting.
These are a type of 'Bullion Weight' and are late Byzantine in date & were very popular in the Viking Age. Any Viking trade activity in your area?
It's hard to be Vikings here. Illirians, Rome or Turkish more possible.

OK this has been on my mind, I was pretty sure it was Viking, so I checked my books.

These date to 9th C - 11th C as this it's 25g is hard not to believe that its based on the VIKING ORA weight system of a unit of 24.5g. Your weight has 1 dot for 1 unit, too much of a coincidence not to be Viking. I think you need to rethink the history of your area, because it clearly had Viking traders.:icon_thumright:

Reference: cf. polyhedral weights in Hårdh, B. Oriental-Scandinavian Contacts on the Volga in Graham-Campbell, J. and Williams, G. (eds.) Silver Economy in the Viking Age, Walnut Creek, 2007 p.141.
