First fossil I've ever found in New Jersey

I've lived here for 6 years now and I usually go out detecting and bottle hunting. I was walking along a creek yesterday looking for bottles and happened to spot this rock with the shell imprint in it...pretty cool!

Hey Bill, I talked to John at work, he saw the pic and said it looks like a brachipod from the devonian period. He said it looks like a spirifer and is probably around 350 million years old or so.

Cool,thanks sis! That's pretty old...lol I'll have to get back there and look for some more fossils, also, I think we might go check out that Big Brook Preserve I was telling you about. I'll let you know if I find anything good...

Cool, I'm glad the info helped, let me know when you find the complete mammoth skeleton. I'm alittle jealous as I find all the Meg teeth and whale teeth and bones I want here in Charleston, but we don't have fossils as old as yours around here. Maybe when you find more, we can trade some fossils.

The info. definitely helped..I love reading about things like this, VERY interesting. Now that I know that there are fossils in that creek I'll be keeping my eyes open for more and I'd definitely be interested in trading for some of yours. Hopefully we'll be down for Thanksgiving, if I find more before then I'll bring them down with us. Take it easy and talk to you soon...
