yeah, like I'm going to get another :tard: or will I :icon_scratch:

We only had 2.5 hours as its Mothers Day, & we were heading for one of our worst hunts. No scrappies & I was happy to get the 1935 Sixpence.

To put this in context I have a picture of the area we covered in several hunts to get it. We were tempted to break the system but gritted our teeth & continued. Gald we did because this little beauty popped out:

1800 George III 1/3 Guinea.

2005 Book price - VF-£120 EF-£300. Mine is nearly EF with small scratches, if your going to find one you may as well get an unworn one 8)

I pictured it with a Fake one I found 2 years ago, up until then I had never seen one or heard of one, except in the book when researching.

WOW - What a great Mothers Day!

First gold coin of 2009. I'm still looking for my first gold coin period. That is a great find & thanks for the pics.

LOL! Exactly what I was thinking...

As long as your all still looking, you have a chance :) I think it took me about 10 years to get my first. As you can see we spend a lot of time trying for split second moments like this one!

Must be getting pretty crowded in the ol' display case...

My apologies for not offering to help sooner.

Why not let me take care of that petronel for you, and I'll bet you can fit the 1/3 guinea right in! ::)

Nice offer, but trust me, I have at least another 20 years of finds to make space for. Might need to move house at the rate we are finding ::)

This is going to be our best year ever, I feel it in my bones ;D (and in the stats.)

Very nice gold coin and even better with the counterfeit beside it ! I have never seen a 1/3 G found. I wonder why they never find those George gold coins in the USA since they have the smaller coins? I also like the spur row and other relics. Congrats and HH, Mike

Excellent find!!! I too have never found a gold coin in over 40 years of MD. HH!!

I hope not, but they do take many hundreds of hours to find, average of 1 every 3 years

This year is building for a record breaker :o

Keep hammering them silver :)

what would that coin have been worth, in terms of wages?

Wow!!!! That is such a nice small gold coin and the only reason you've got it is because you stuck with what has worked. I grid, but it gets tiring when you go long spells and have nothing to show except for a few eaten zinc coins. Congrats on such a nice coin!!

Wow, that is an awesome find!!! I've only found one gold coin, and it was a real gold copy 1911 British Sovereign with a bail and gold chain. Still, it counts to me as a gold coin find. Congrats!!

It was worth 7 Shillings (or 84 old Pennies or 336 farthings). I'm not sure what the pay package was but you could get a lot for a penny in 1800.

Its a wild guess but maybe 1/2 weeks pay for the average worker.
