Hello, all. This is my first post, so let's hope this works! A few weeks ago I decided to go out into the woods where I have had some great luck for the past few months to focus on an area next to an old walking path. I had found an 1866/1867 shield nickel in the vicinity the week prior, so I thought that I would take my time and grid off a section. About ten minutes in, I got a strong, repeating penny/dime signal at about 4 inches next to a couple of pines. I dug the plug, pinpointed the target, and then realized that it was tiny- at which point I thought "could this be a half-dime?" And it was. An 1848. It is now one of the center pieces of my little boy's rapidly growing coin collection! Also included pics of the Shield Nickel- it's pretty corroded, but you can make out the shield, wreath, and on the obverse, the "5" circled by stars with rays between. Will post more recent finds from this section of woods- including the story behind my avatar- found a bent 1858-O half in the same area. Thanks for reading.
