It looks like a core and is used as a supply stone for Arrowheads or other tools. I see no other use of it other then that. They would go to a quarry that they got there lithics from and travel back to the village or campsite with these large chunks of flint or chert and start breaking those down into arrowheads and various other tools that they would need at that moment....................Hope this helps...................GTP(Chris)

A core was my first thought as well. I don't really see the battering at the ends that some are seeing. It looks more like stock for tool production. Which is a cool find IMO. We don't get nice lithics like that up this way too often. Anyway, just my 2 cents......

Hey guys.. found this odd worked piece of some kind of flint stone. Just wondering what it is for sure. Hand held axe, bone breaker, tool of some sort?

looks like the material i find naturally outcropping around hilltop sites i visit. around here seems like they liked that material for these sort of tools as your hand axe

As I looked again it does seem to have core flakes struck off and the bit end is a little wide i think they struck flakes from this pc it ended up shaped the way it is and they used it a time or to to chop with.

I think Get-the-Point is correct in what he described only I refer to them as quarry blanks. Also they could easily have been used as hammer stones until the time came to break it down.

They could have been CroMag or even Neanderthals. The one has flute in it like a freaken Cumberland or Clovis. I know that does not prove anything, but fluting definitely disappears mid archaic.

Gary, I have quite a few of these hand axe or choppers, but none as lively as yours. Nice finds bro !!!
