Went back to where I had the 2 hammered last sunday. I didn't expect much as its a remote location, but I was very happy with the final result. We did 10 man hours work without a break on solid baked clay with sunny conditions. We covered 2 acres of land carefully. Still 1.5 acres of the set-a-side left to do tomorrow. Then we may have to go back to the Huge Field!
As luck would have it I found all the nice stuff, makes up for my Dads axehead etc.
Finds were:
Buttons - Victorian Hunts button with dogs head, broken Tudor (1500s) button, rare 17th century button, & a Navy button.
Coins - 1670s farthing, Edward I cica 1270s Penny, Broken hammered, 6 Roman bronze coins
Buckles - Modern stuff, a nice mini 17th century type , 18th century Clog Clasp.
Lead - 2 Bag seals, medieval weight, 17th century black powder flask lid.
Star finds - Bronze Roman lock fitting, Gilt medieval belt mount, Medieval Casket Key
Bits - 4 broken clay pipes, several parts of a whatsit, etc...
See how it goes tomorrow
