I got quite excited in the middle of the week as I took a cycle ride to our 2nd Fav Field & the Grass/Hay crop had been cut early & I thought I maybe able to get on it. But as he had only had 50% the amount he was expecting & cut it early hoping to encourage a second growth now that we have had a bit of rain, he said NO :( We always respect whatever the farmers terms are, but it was a bit disappointing as it would have been a real bonus at this time of year.
Therefore, it was back to the slog of the grass field we had a short explore on last week, the signals seemed encouraging for an odd good find or two. As it turned out after 4.5 hours we had cleared loads of modern junk & the ground was just as hard as before this weeks rain :P (this farmer isn't bothered about us digging his grass)

We got a few OK finds:
Silver Shilling (nearly worn blank) - George IV (1821-25)
Brass Cross of the Design of 'The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre' - They are referenced as 16th C, but there is some deate they are later, & as the oldest find so far is a 1670s farthing it's adding weight to the later arguement. :-\
Victorian Royal Navy Button
Livery Buttons
Lead Dog (huskey?) - seems to have sledge pulling reins

Must admit I was in the older camp on these, Michael Mitchiners reference seem sound as he is a great researcher & very careful, this maybe his only error, I'm just not sure either way :-\

We always suck up these fields in harder times & strike them off once complete, it was just bitter sweet after the possible 2nd Fav option :hello: (we still have 2/3rd's of the field left, so might be 1 good find) :dontknow:

nice hunt! the fields will be cut before ya know it.
