Fingers crossed, it seems like you are in a great era. Hopefully you can pull that 1877 IHP tomorrow. Keep us posted. I sure need to find me a new field of dreams. All my permissions are pretty much played out. My mission this evening is to ID tomorrow's detecting sites. It's supposed to be in the high 40s with rain tomorrow. Maybe the last chance to hunt for while. Temps will drop into the 20's beginning Sunday "until who knows when"...

I also need to decide how I'm going to spend my lottery winnings. :tongue3:

Those Indians are dancin' pretty close to 1877...1870, 1874, 1876. Wouldn't be surprised if you pull the Key from that site. way to go:thumbsup:.

I always use peroxide on mine. I dig some nasty ones by the ocean and some clean up great. Here's an example

Put about an inch of hp in a small container. Put it in the microwave for 28 seconds. Then take it out and drop the coins in. They will fizz for awhile. Let them sit in there for 8 minutes then pull them out and see if the dirt is loose. I use a very soft toothbrush to get in the nooks and crannies

I get a very soft toothbrush and gently brush the dirt off after the cent coins soak in warm soapy water for about 15 minutes. I would not clean the seated more than rinsing the dirt off running warm water over it under the spigot in the kitchen sink.

To get into the nooks on the IHPs I dry clean them with toothpicks using what I pictured below to better see what I'm doing..

Peroxide will darken the coins, I rather leave the green patina, unless of course it is totally encrusted, then there is nothing to lose. I used the peroxide on my 1st 2 LCs about 5 months ago.

If you have some patience I'd soak them in oil for a month or so and then see if you can pick off the crust. I have not had as much luck as others with this method though. EVOO will color the coin, but I have heard that mineral oil doesn't

Not nearly as nice as the Barber quarter though and this one took a pretty good hit to the rim and some of the reverse from a plow

I am a lemon head.I like to use lemon juice but sometimes it is best to just leave well enough alone.Like the 74 and the 76.would get toothbrush soap water.the other two I would give a little mild treatment.
