I'm heading out soon with my Tee-Dee EZ sluice.

I was thinking about taking the miners moss out and putting some ribbed matting under the riffles. Unfortunately I do not have a flare for it yet. Does anyone know how well these work?

Work 'pretty good'. Don't modify it. The key is to run only a shallow amount of water thru it to catch the finer gold.

How far down should I classify the material? I've got a 1/8th inch screen that I was going to use. Is that going to be small enough?

1/8 sounds perfect; exactly what I do!

Occasionally I run the 1/2 - 1/8 stuff separately if I think there might be bigger gold (there rarely is where I am but a guy can hope!). Always separately though in a freshly cleaned out sluice so the big stuff doesn't blow out my fine gold.

Don't loose the miner's moss. Good stuff! Only two mods I can think of... Add a crossbar to hold a small bubble level to ensure even flow across the sluice. Also, maybe add four "feet" to be able to adjust the slope of the waterflow down the sluice in shallow OR deeper water without having to build rock levee. TTC

I'll do that in the next couple of days Terry thank you. I think I'm going to kill a dog also. I went to my father-in-laws place and was getting in a little practice. I'm in North Texas so I'm not expecting to find anything. Well, I was wrong. Found a few VERY tiny flakes :) Picked everything up with my snuffer bottle to work it a little better at the house. While I was getting everything ready to go, one of the fricking dogs grabbed the snuffer bottle and ran off into the woods. If I'd had my .40 the dog wouldn't have made it to the trees. Lucky pup.

Yep. In about 15 pieces. By the time I caught up with the dog he was chewing on the straw part of the snuffer. The rest of it was in pieces. You can bet I'll be back out on that creek next week with a new snuffer and a snuffer holster (just saw one today). It's amazing what can happen out there that you don't expect.
