First outing with my new detector (Tesoro Vaquero) in a park that I am sure has been pounded in the past.
The park is actually across the street from the yard that the seated quarter used as my avatar came from.
I was double checking most of the targets with my AT Pro as I am still learning this machine.
Came up on the AT Pro in the 55-57 range.
Thought I was digging a nickel and out pops a Fatty Indian Head instead.
Was down about 7.5".
I knew what is was by the size and the low VDI considering it was a penny.
The thing is toasted. Unfortunately I can't make out the date but obviously know it's in the 1859-1864 range.
The backside is basically a big green blob.

Congratulations on the Fatty.
My very first Fatty really fooled me. It registered just like a nickel.
Congratulations

Fatties are tough to find, so nice job grabbing that one!

Close your eyes and imagine a pile of pull tabs, can slaw, bits of foil and wasted zinc pennies.
That about sums it up! :laughing7:

Congrats! I got my first fatty last week and had the same thing happen as you. I got a mid fifties tone thought I was getting a pull tab or nickel and out pops an indian, mine was completely toast as well.

Fatties are overlooked because of where they hit, many think its trash so overlook it, same with older nickels, walked over because of sound and location on screen or numbers!
