He made it up. Look for an estimate from a reliable source.

WOW! You're good! Finally got it down to a few dealers and was told $750 by one and $850 by another, the only problem with it is one sprung spring in the seat, it's all still original...I won't even go into the dealer that told me $300 and promptly offered to buy it GRRRR! Thanks!!
