Brandon and I were out detecting.. I found this weird coin which I like a IDIOT came home and tried to clean it...STUPID STUPID MOVE.. there was what looked like a W in the middle of it..and the date of 1822..it sparkles like gold... the edges are roughish... and I RUINED IT cleaning it with a brass brush.. Now I am trying to take a picture that is clear enough to see.. so bear with me till I get a good pix of this.. I put ashes on it to see if I could see the imprints better.. course I think I destroyed it.. SHOOT ME

its approx the size of a nickel, but tiny bit bigger ... waiting for the battery to charge up for the other better camera...

dont fret bootybay! gold doesnt corrode, it would look as good as the day it was minted if it were gold. im guessing maybe that is a brass token of some sort. nice find!

Not allways, depends on soil conditions and other factors such as possibly going through a fire etc.Look at these coins. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,145244.0/topicseen.html

did you see the pics after they were cleaned? they look brand new.

Don't worry, there is NO WAY that is gold. I have seen 800 year old gold coins dug and they look like the day they were lost!

Great booty, Booty! Been there done that to two coins. Now every time I find a coin Donna says "don't cook it!....don't scrub it!" but I just can't help it. I think if I keep cleaning it it will become clearer.
At least you can read the date. WTG!

Nope I dident see that, but after thinking about it I guess they would clean up nicely.I remember the photos of the coins from the central America comin up all crusty and they cleaned up right nice also.I'll bet they dident use a wire brush ether.
