:hello:

Hello everybody :headbang:

At last we managed to get out for a days hunting :) the day didn't start that good though :-\ a puncture on the Jeep put paid to a early start :-\ We finally got to a couple of fields we have been watching over the Winter, expecting them to have both been ploughed by now...they had but were both way to rough to detect :'(
We adopted plan B and slipped back onto the Roman Villa site, although this field has yielded pretty poor results this year, it always has the potential to give-up something SPETACULAR...today it did...for me :o

Celtic Gold Stater .....Corieltavi Inscribed Stater VOLISIOS DVMNOCOVEROS..AD 20-35... :o I'm still in shock, I couldn't post last night, due to a Computer Virus ???...and it didn't stop there :o

Michael chipped in with a broken Roman Silver, then a full one :o I plucked a cut half Hammered(long cross).. :headbang:

Then Michael had his find of the day...a Viking embedded coin weight :o :o (needs carefull cleaning) these are a quite rare item :o and fetch a few quid

Next it was me turn with a nice Roman Silver laying right on the top :o not quite sure yet of the ID, needs a bit of cleaning, I will update the post as time Goes on :icon_thumleft:

Anyway enjoy the pictures of our AMAZING 5 hours detecting the Yorkshire soil :notworthy:

Here is some imformation on Viking Coin weights :icon_thumleft:

To be honest shaun and Pete, I have asked for the coin to be removed from the Banner, it only got there through complaning :-\ and that should never have been the case, also Crusaders post warranted the Banner, these two finds were posted almost a week ago...it's a complete farse :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

And I wish I had never posted it :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

SS
I've been down that road SS. :( (But it truely deserves to be there ) I thought maybe it was because they have been working on the forum so much lately that they might not of got to it. :dontknow: Either way it's there and hope you reconsider removeing it.My two were like that and I sorta had the same feeling hell a couple of mine got alot of votes and still never made it. :icon_scratch: I've just learned to accept it and move on I know what they were and how hard it be to find iteams like them here at least. So I put them on my own Banner train.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

Yes, a wonderful find! Congrats!

Birdman, Don't worry, there's plenty for you to find! I was stationed in RAF Upper Heyford and RAF Fairford and that area is FULL of fantastic finds. I never found any gold, but I did get some Celtic silver and a few Roman bronzes. England is a lot of fun to detect in, so you are in for treat!

The problem is that our American friends are accustomed to our exceptional discoveries, and from now take into account only the treasures of over 200 Roman gold coins, or something similar.
I have only 12 days to find a treasure Precolumbian .... otherwise I will never do a banner on my vacation.
They do it to overcome us personally...... :laughing7:

H.

There were Times the Entire Banner was British Finds,
& Only 1 or 2 Complaints there was no Civil war
items up there at That time.

There is no Onesided Decisions on Banner

I Can't help if Something only gets a few Votes Or
Many Votes, or how long it takes before Votes come in.

If anyone Knows how Many Votes
a Particular Find up there received
over any period of time They must have been
Politicking to get those Votes.
& Trusting everyone who Said they Voted, Actually
Pushed the Button

Or reading My EMail :tongue3:

Anyway once something is Bannered
I Expect it to Stay.

Now this thread is Not for Whining.

It is about Finds.

Silver Searcher, when I first saw the find I thought "that looks interesting", not knowing of rarity or origin or anything. Having said this, and recognizing my awkward naivety, I offer you a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS! Regards, gleaner.

:hello:

The coin was found at four inches on a seeded field, the detector was a XP Goldmaxx Power, on very basic settings.

For those who like to know, here is a little more imformation about the Ruler Volisios depicted on the Gold Stater :icon_thumleft:

The name of this ruler appears in conjunction with that of three other nobles, Dumnocoveros, Dumnovellau[nos] and Cartivel[ios], each on separate coinage issues minted around AD45. This is unprecedented within the tribe, who usually minted coins bearing the names of two - or in one case, three - magistrates. It appears that Volisios became the overlord of the Corieltauvi possibly just prior to the Roman invasion, and issued coin bearing the names of his three lieutenants who were to govern separate quarters of the tribal territory. In the face of the Roman advance it would appear that Volisios moved his court northwards into the land of the Parisii, and that his people continued to prosper in this region for several more years.

Thanks a million for the extra info, it really makes a big difference when you can learn some history with the finds, I really enjoyed reading your lines. I think its very important not just to dig everything out, but to learn the why, who, and when of the find.
I'm going to do this on my posts from now on. Also Hispan writes some history.

Congrats again
