Did that article say gold detector? When my md is in the gold range its usually a pull tab. Then again I stop digging after so many inches...

He needs the instruction book for that MD. Or else I want one if it goes to 60 ft.

if he had been a member here,
he would have realized no detector goes 60 feet
and would have checked his pile of dirt after
the second scoop of dirt. or used a pinpointer.

I know that area well and and that was no easy digging. Montclair is at the base of the San Gabrial mountains (which did have a small gold rush ) ground is an alluvial plane full of rocks.

Crazzzzy dude lol! I work for a pipeline company, and excavations are carried out, often for maintenace or new construction. If we dig a hole/ditch over 3 feet, it has to be sloped or benched. And if this is not possible, the ditch must be shored to prevent cave in. A 4-5 foot cave in can be fatal. BUT 60 FEET??? Man the CO2 buildup alone could kill ya........whew!!!!

My guess it was a piece of rusted Iron or nail,
ant it threw the Pinpointing off by a few inches.
and he never rechecked the hole, just started digging.

IF he even used a detector.

He may have been a Few stones off in another area,
and just Imagined there was gold in his yard.
and used the detector for an excuse.

I'd say if that guy was a member here, all you would have to do is to look for the longest post, and that would be him. ;D
