Hallelujah, finally got it home, whew! 😅
The wheels started turning once it got into the driveway, the saw blade even turns like it's new. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, I just think it's such a cool piece of history & definitely the biggest thing I've ever dug!! I'm curious as to about how old it is?
I think it'll be a while before I do something like this again, I'm exhausted! 😂🤣😜

belt driven by tractor or hit and miss motor ,the hit and miss could be moved around the farm for different jobs , they ran saws , pumps ,grain mills

that's where you place the wood to be cut and then move the whole thing into the blade , here's a short video of how it works,

I thoroughly enjoyed that video. I would think someone would have made it so after the belt was on it, you could add clips or something so the belt wouldn't slip off?? But that's really sweet, I wish mine had the motor still with it. 🙂

There was an old rotted belt on it, so I imagine it was belt driven?

I borrowed one of your photos. The item circled in red is the drive pulley that is driven by the flat “jack” belt.
The item to the left, between the 2 square nuts, is an oil cup. It allows the bearing to stay cool and functioning.

the belt was made to remove easily because the motor ran a variety of tools around the farm . many were on a wagon to be moved around as needed .

I'm guessing they were kinda the forerunner or inspiration for the tractor PTO?

There is a black type paint that they use on cars that stops rusting. I painted my truck wheel housings with it. I do not remembers its name. It is quite expensive . If interested i will see what i can finds it's name

Some times there is a small ID tag riveted to the frame? Your saw rig looks like a Sears & Roebuck. They were offered with a 4, 6, or 8 hp Economy hit&miss engine. . it is probably around 1915 or so? Price was $175 /$225. On an all steel 4 wheel wagon.

This reminds me of a little lumber mill my dad went to when I was a kid. The saw they had looked a lot like this one. They had the rear end of an old car jacked up with one tire off. The saw was powered by a flat belt running from the rim on the car to the pulley on the saw. I haven't thought about that mill in years.

Early tractors had the belt pulley to power equipment such as this. As seen here on my 1948 IHC Farmall. I Only see rear wheels on yours so it may have been attached to a tractor’s draw bar while running.
In my opinion you have a homemade machine made from pre 1930’s components. Which is still very cool. I’ve heard of and seen a few examples of farmers building their equipment rather than buy.
Great save. But if you ever try to cut with it use extreme caution.
