I had posted this in the what is it forum with no answers. A friend directed me to someone who knows these. He said it is a Knights of Columbus Medal and the Patent date is 1886 as after 1900 we no longer used dates for patents. It seems to have a gold gilt on it and the pin fell off the back of it when it came out of the ground. I thought this was just another patriotic medal but several have told me its not and quite rare. Here is my happy find of the day and Yes I did do a happy dance!! HH Tnet!
